Custom Medications
for Your Pets
& Animals - Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy Stouffville
Not every pet will swallow a pill. Not every commercial medication comes in the right dose for your animal. Wishing Well Pharmacy — through our compounding pharmacy network — provides custom-formulated veterinary medications for dogs, cats, horses, livestock, and more. Flavoured, precisely dosed, and prepared by licensed pharmacists on your veterinarian's prescription.
Why Compounding
When Commercial Medications Aren't Enough
Standard veterinary medications are made for average animals in average doses. Your pet isn't average — and sometimes, neither is the problem.
Your Pet Refuses the Medication
Pills hidden in food get spit out. Liquids get shaken off. Compounding lets us make medications in flavours pets actually want — chicken, beef, tuna, peanut butter. Medication time stops being a battle.
The Dose Doesn't Fit Your Animal
A Chihuahua and a Great Dane can't take the same pill strength. Commercial doses are standardized; your pet isn't. We prepare exactly the dose your vet prescribes — down to your animal's weight and condition.
The Medication Is Discontinued or Unavailable
Drug shortages and manufacturer discontinuations leave pets without medications they depend on. When a commercial product is unavailable, compounding pharmacists can often recreate the formulation from active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Allergies to Inactive Ingredients
Commercial medications contain fillers, dyes, and preservatives that some animals can't tolerate. Compounding lets us build a medication from scratch — using only the ingredients your pet can safely take.
Multiple Medications in One
Giving several medications separately is stressful for pet and owner alike. Where therapeutically appropriate, your vet may prescribe a combination compound — multiple active ingredients in a single formulation.
Large Animals & Livestock
Horses, cattle, goats, and sheep require formulations at a scale commercial products simply don't offer. We can prepare medications in volumes and concentrations appropriate for large animals and agricultural settings.
Formulation Options
Available in the Form That Works for Your Animal
Compounded medications can be prepared in virtually any dosage form — whatever your veterinarian prescribes and your animal will accept.
Flavoured Oral Liquids
Liquid suspensions in pet-friendly flavours — chicken, beef, fish, peanut butter, bacon, and more. Dosed precisely by weight, administered by dropper or syringe.
Flavoured Chewable Treats
Soft chewable treat formulations that pets voluntarily take. Ideal for dogs who gobble their medication as if it were a snack rather than medicine.
Capsules & Tablets
Custom-strength capsules and tablets at the exact dose your vet prescribes — not the nearest commercial approximation. Available in sizes appropriate for the species.
Transdermal Gels
Applied to the inner ear flap or skin — no oral administration required. Particularly effective for cats, who are notoriously difficult to medicate by mouth.
Topical Creams & Ointments
Applied directly to the affected area for skin conditions, wound care, ear infections, and localized treatment. Reduces systemic exposure where that's a priority.
Eye & Ear Drops
Custom-concentration ophthalmic and otic preparations for pets with eye infections, glaucoma, ear infections, and other conditions requiring localized drops.
Species We Serve
Compounding for Pets, Horses & Livestock
If your veterinarian can prescribe it, we can usually compound it — regardless of the species.
Dogs
Pain management, anti-seizure medications, thyroid, antibiotics, dermatology, behaviour, cardiac conditions — in flavours dogs love.
Cats
Hyperthyroidism, chronic kidney disease, IBD, pain, behaviour. Transdermal gels make oral medication unnecessary for cats who refuse pills.
Horses & Equine
Joint supplements, anti-inflammatories, gastric ulcer treatments, hormonal medications, and large-volume formulations for performance and working horses.
Livestock & Farm Animals
Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs — treatment-scale formulations for agricultural settings. Custom concentrations not available in commercial products.
Rabbits & Small Animals
Ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas — tiny doses that commercial tablets can't provide without splitting and estimation.
Birds
Small-volume concentrated liquids in fruit flavours. Birds cannot take large volumes — compounded formulations are sized and flavoured appropriately.
Reptiles
Lizards, snakes, turtles, and tortoises require specialized dosing. We prepare custom formulations based on your vet's specific prescription.
Exotic & Zoo Animals
Unusual species, unusual needs. If your veterinarian has written a prescription, contact us to discuss what's possible.
Common Uses
Conditions Commonly Treated with Compounded Pet Medications
Hyperthyroidism (Cats)
Methimazole transdermal gel applied to the ear — the most common reason cats need compounding. Avoids daily pilling for a lifelong condition.
Pain & Anti-Inflammatory
NSAIDs and analgesics in custom doses and flavours for post-surgical recovery, arthritis, and chronic pain in dogs, cats, and horses.
Epilepsy & Seizure Management
Phenobarbital, potassium bromide, and other anti-seizure medications in precisely compounded doses and flavoured suspensions.
Dermatological Conditions
Skin infections, allergic dermatitis, ear infections — topical preparations with active ingredients not available in commercial products.
Cardiac & Blood Pressure
Atenolol, amlodipine, enalapril in pet-appropriate concentrations and flavoured liquids for cats and dogs with cardiac disease.
Gastrointestinal & IBD
Budesonide, sucralfate, metronidazole compounded into suspensions or chewable treats for pets with inflammatory bowel disease.
Behaviour & Anxiety
Fluoxetine, clomipramine, trazodone for anxiety, separation distress, and feline stress — in doses and forms tailored to your pet.
Hormone Replacement
Estrogen and testosterone preparations for spayed/neutered pets with hormone-responsive conditions, at doses not commercially available.
How It Works
Simple Process, Start to Finish
Getting a compounded medication for your pet is straightforward. Here's how the process works.
Your Vet Writes a Prescription
Your veterinarian identifies that a compounded medication is needed and writes a prescription specifying the drug, dose, dosage form, and flavour (if applicable).
Contact Wishing Well Pharmacy
Call us at (905) 591-9155 or submit a medication request online. Your vet can also send the prescription directly to us.
We Confirm & Prepare
Our pharmacists verify the prescription, confirm formulation details, and prepare the compound through our licensed compounding network — to OCP and NAPRA standards.
Pickup or Delivery
Collect your pet's medication at our Stouffville location, or request local delivery. We'll provide clear dispensing instructions so you know exactly how to administer it.
Prepared to Ontario Pharmacy Standards
All veterinary compounded medications available through Wishing Well Pharmacy are prepared through our licensed compounding pharmacy network — pharmacists in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, following NAPRA standards for non-sterile compounding.
This means every compound is prepared under documented protocols with quality controls — not improvised, not estimated, not from unknown sources. Your pet's safety is the baseline, not the goal.
Compounding is the preparation of a customized medication for a specific patient on a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian. It is a regulated practice under Ontario pharmacy law.
